Divergent by: Veronica Roth

One choice was all that Beatrice Prior had. This choice would decide her friends, her beliefs and her loyalties, it will transform her. In the city where Beatrice lives the society is divided into 5 factions. Candor( the honest ), Abnegation( the selfless), Dauntless( the brave), Amity ( the peaceful), and Erudite( the intelligent). Each year 16 year olds must decide their faction in which they will live for the rest of their lives. But Beatrice discovers that she has a powerful secret that might mean death. Beatrice makes a decision which even surprises herself. She renames herself Tris and as she discovers a conflict between factions she learns that her secret might save the ones she loves or destroy them.

I would recommend this book to the ages of 12- 14 because the vocabulary is great for that age level and may not interest higher or lower ages. It is very captivating and exiting. It has a lot of suspense which is what makes this book so fascinating.
Veronica Roth graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in creative writing. When she was young instead of doing her homework she worked on a book which is now Divergent. Now she is a full time writer and lives near Chicago. Her 2 other novels in the series are also a good read, but I especially enjoyed this first book the best.
