My Most-Anticipated August 2020 Reads✧

Hello Bookworms, if you know me, you know how bad I am at reading books when they are published. I always end up reading a book that was hyped in September in August😳. I will most likely get to these books in September(if we are being hopeful…), now if we are being realistic, that’s another question. I compiled a list of books that I’ve been hearing about that are being released in August, or just books that I’ve found. Also, can ANYONE believe that it’s almost August? Am I the only one who feels like it’s still March or April…

Amazon.com: Being Lolita: A Memoir eBook: Wood, Alisson: Kindle Store

Release Date – August 4th 2020

Summary:

BEING LOLITA is a stunning coming-of-age memoir of obsession, passion, and manipulation, shining a bright light on our shifting perceptions of consent, vulnerability, and power. This is the story of what happens when a young woman realizes her entire narrative must be rewritten—and then takes back the pen to rewrite it. (goodreads)

This book is a non-fiction about a 17-year old girl names Alisson who is essentially groomed and later abused by her English teacher in her senior year. She recounts her experiences, in a heart-wrenching manner in this powerful memoir.

This book comes at a weird time for me, because I am working on my review of Lolita(which I loved). It’s a bit of a controversial book, but the writing is spectacular and it deserves to be reviewed on my blog.

The Black Kids by Christina Hammonds Reed

Release Date – August 5th 2020

Summary:

Perfect for fans of The Hate U Give, this unforgettable coming-of-age debut novel explores issues of race, class, and violence through the eyes of a wealthy black teenager whose family gets caught in the vortex of the 1992 Rodney King Riots. (goodreads)

I am so excited to read this book. I have seen this EVERYWHERE in the past few weeks. Not only is the cover the best thing ever, but the summary is also very intriguing! I also had applied for an e-arc of this book, but sadly…… got rejected😢. But that’s not going to stop meeeeeeee!

And 4.5 stars on Goodreads, yes, please!

Kiss My Cupcake eBook: Hunting, Helena: Amazon.co.uk: Kindle Store

Release Date- August 11th 2020

Summary:

As two neighborhood shop owners battle for business, they prove opposites attract in this outrageously funny romantic comedy from the USA Today bestselling author of Meet Cute. (goodreads)

I’ve seen this one on a couple of lists too, and I really enjoyed Helena Hunting’s other book, Meet Cute(which you should go read). I also never read any romance, so this is me adding it to this list so that I can force myself to read it.

I’m also completely fine with being let down with the ending or the plot with this book(wow, cannot believe I am saying that….).

All I want is the CHARACTERS! Characters are the ONLY reason I read any romance novels.

The Death of Vivek Oji

Release Date – August 4th 2020

Summary:

Named one of the year’s most anticipated books by The New York TimesHarper’s BazaarBuzzFeed, and more

What does it mean for a family to lose a child they never really knew?(goodreads)

I rarely watch booktube, but I saw this book first mentioned on @readingwithmoe ‘s channel. She hooked me, and I’ve also read a couple of reviews saying this book is “lifechanging” and “stunning“, so there is truly only one option.

TO READ IT!

I also cannot stop staring at the cover. There is just something about it??!? Am I the only one?

Now That I've Found You

That is until a close friend’s betrayal leads to her being blacklisted . . . (goodreads)

Seen this title ALL over Netgalley, and it’s FILLED with POC characters so I am PUMPED!

Sounds like an overall cute read, with great characters and it’s set in New York?! Checked all the boxes with me!!

My tbr has definitely been missing a fun summer read, so if you are looking to read something while laying in the sun, here’s the book for you.

Thanks for reading! Have you heard of any of these titles, and if so are you excited for them too!

  3. When it comes to the romance it’s all about the characters for me too. I love seeing their individual growth as much as the relationship.

Now That I’ve Found You definitely sounds like the perfect summery read.
